Our Constitution is not a paper you can
just flush away,
"Anchors Aweigh,""Semper Fi," "Semper Paratus,"
"Service Before Self,"
"This We’ll defend," have put so many in the
deep of the ocean,
in tombs on land, and in ashes floating
from the sky,
Upholding a Document so dear,
Yet others out of fear seek to destroy
Its binding gift that many times over was
put aside.
As a President said,
“All we have to fear is fear itself.” And
yet he succumbed
Placing many a soul behind barbed wire
fence,
Japanese, Italians and Germans too.
600,000 Italians, 1.2 million German aliens
Too large to confine more than a handful
Yet120,000 Issei and Nisei
removed from their homes and businesses
Placed in detention camps until the end of
the War,
Better than reservations where hope lingers
by strings
As loss of identity and meaninglessness
year after year takes its toll,
Pipelines cross their sacred ground
polluting spring and source
Washington a bed of confusion and dismay.
Where ego flexes its power
Releasing edicts lacking deliberations
about liberation
Conflicting with the renowned ruling
Declaration and Creation
Responding with rhetorical overtones,
intimations, and unfounded allusions
Causing many to fear our demise as a free immigrant
nation.
